Oxted WTW Project Completion

Our fantastic Coleman Construction & Utilities team, led by Site Manager Steve Ball, has completed a 4 month civil engineering Ferric Dosing Scheme in Oxted. The scope included 7No draw pits and in excess of 1200m of new ducting to install around the site. 50% of the new pits were installed in the road, which involved substantial break out works of both concrete and tarmac, which was then carefully reinstated at the end of the project.

Our main area of new build work required a number of redundant chemical / sludge tanks MCCs, to be demolished and taken off site before we could commence. Once this was complete, the pipework for the interceptor and emergency shower and containment delivery bay including ACO and sump / drainage were completed. We then constructed the Interceptor and E-shower and then the kiosk and fill point. While this was being constructed another team was working concurrently installing draw pits. The reinforced concrete chemical containment areas that were constructed involved both shuttering and steel fixing and consisted of two large base slabs with a containment wall around the outside and small plinths for the pipe work to sit on. Following on from this we installed ACO drainage on the other side of a containment hump and completed the site works with anti-roam bollards and footpaths around all the slabs and delivery bays, to create safe walking routes.

The site works and collaboration were impressive and were rewarded with a brilliant testimonial from Fred Hoskins, Southern Water’s Waste Water Operator:

“I am writing to let you know your workforce has completed the groundwork at my Oxted waste works and is now ready for the next stage. I can only praise them. The guys started construction of my new ferric dosing system earlier this year and it’s been a pleasure having them on my site. They have been professional and respectful throughout. They even made me feel like I was part of the team by keeping me updated about my site when I was absent. I would just like to add that your lads are a credit to you and Coleman Construction, and would welcome them back at any time.”
