Newnham Valley and Shrub Lane – Installation of Ferric Dosing

Coleman Construction & Utilities Limited (CCUL) has secured and commenced two AMP7 civil engineering projects on behalf of CMDP’s capital programme tranche 1. CMDP is a joint venture between MWH Treatment and Costain that has been selected by Southern Water to deliver its AMP7 investment programme. Coleman Construction & Utilities Limited is delighted to be working in collaboration with CMDP again, building on its success in AMP6 and utilising a full range of expertise to provide innovative and cost-effective solutions, as part of Southern Water’s multi-billion-pound 2020-2025 business plan.

The two Ferric Dosing schemes at Newnham Valley and Shrub Lane have been set up and fully mobilised and have now moved into full construction, with key milestones to achieve by the end of October. Both schemes include the installation of ducting and draw pit systems which will carry both electrical and chemical dosing lines and are required to have manhole and drainage systems installed to carry both surface water and chemical spills which will be contained in intercept chambers.

Ferric dosing slabs will be constructed to house the new ferric dosing kiosks, along with hard standings and footpaths for access to all new assets and chemical delivery bays will be constructed and connected to the intercept chambers, allowing ferric delivery lories to enter the delivery bays when filling the ferric units for the event of any spillage that may occur.

Newnham Valley under the management of Coleman Construction & Utilities Limited Site Manager Billy Rixon, has also had to have acoustic barrier installed and due to bats habiting in the area other suitable protective measures have been put into place.

This site is also the very first site that will adhere to the new regulation of employing dumpers which are 6 Tonne and above and that are fully cabbed. These are being supplied through Coleman Plant Hire Limited – our plant hire subsidiary – along with a brand new 14 Tonne Hyundai Excavator.

Shrub Lane is the second of the AMP7 tranche 1 projects that has commenced. It is being managed by CCUL Site Manager Dean Reed and has progressed well to date. The site has been fully set up and is now at the stage of ground preparation ready for concrete blinding, including underground services and subbase installation. This is in readiness for the new Ferric Dosing base where excavations have also been dug in preparation for an intercept chamber to be installed along with the based for the new duct pits.
