Our Hailsham South Wastewater Civil Engineering programme of works, has been progressing well under the leadership of Site Manager, Will Weiner. Coleman Construction and Utilities Limited has maintained its excellent project progress and collaborative solution-based approach during March, on behalf of client CMDP – a Costain/MWHT joint venture that is delivering a range of schemes, to maintain and improve Southern Water’s water supply and wastewater treatment works in Kent & East Sussex.
Oxidation ditch pipe works have commenced this month. This comprises of 2No hot taps to the existing 900mm pipe and 2No cores, drilled through the existing ditch walls. Both operations will be completed with all Southern Water plant remaining live, in order to eliminate site shutdowns and/or over pumping – more about this work is shown below, as we report the following progress for March 2021:
Tertiary Treatment Inlet Pipework
- Hot tap drilling operations were completed by way of a prefabricated saddle, clamped onto the existing 900mm main, which enabled the installation of the new 900mm valve and drilling rig. Excellent collaborative working between Coleman Construction & Utilities Limited and supplier, Swan Pipeline teams.
- Final pipework connections were completed between the connection point and the new Tertiary Treatment Pumping Station.
- Successful water testing then took place, whereby the valve was opened for a period of time to allow water to flow and fill the pipeline and the pump station.
- Following testing, the excavation was back filled, and all temporary works removed.
Tertiary Treatment Actisand and Wash Water Booster Area
- The Actisand Silo slab was concreted, and the area readied for first part of the mechanical installation.
- The Wash Water booster kiosk reinforced concrete works were also completed.
- Mechanical crane movements will be completed early in April, when Coleman Construction & Utilities Limited will return to complete the footpath and landscaping works
Inlet Works Road Widening
- 6No inlet works road bays have now been completed for the new turning area at the inlet works. These works included new ducting, draw pits, with potable and wash water supplies installed.
Oxidation Ditch Pipework
- The ground in the area has been reduced, exposing numerous bare laid cables, these were excavated around and traced back far enough that we are able to move the cables temporarily out of the way for the further excavations to be completed.
Ducting and Draw Pits
- The ducting system installation has commenced from DP05 located at the LV switch room through to DP’s 06-10. At that point, Coleman Construction & Utilities Limited will install a high-level trough route from DP11, finishing at MCC07.
