June 2021 has seen Coleman Construction & Utilities Limited move nearer to practical completion of its wastewater civil engineering contract at Southern Water’s Hailsham South site.
Working in close collaboration with Principal Contractor CMDP, the Coleman team have continued to deliver construction techniques that solve environmentally sensitive project requirements in a safe and sustainable manner.
Our specialist teams have been delivering extensive below ground pipeline and sewer solutions for this project, undertaking enabling works, groundworks, temporary works and permanent works to improve the quality of final effluent that is being discharged from the works and entering the local water course’s and to meet the regulatory output dates set by the Environment Agency.
Progress for June 2021 has included:
Secondary Ferric Dosing
- The secondary Ferric Dosing area has progressed with the RC base poured for the dosing kiosk to be installed.
- Footpaths and hard standings around the kiosk have been poured with guardsman bollards installed for kiosk protection.
Oxidation ditch pipe work
- 2No 600mm diameter ductile iron pipe runs have been installed from the aeration ditches to the fine screens chamber, these have been installed to help with the capacity of flows and prevent any future overflowing of the ditches.
- 2No cores were drilled for stitch holes to allow for the pipe runs to be installed to the existing chamber.
- Pipe runs have been completed
- Reinstatement works have been completed as far as possible with RC steps and footpaths progressed. A H block retaining wall will now need constructing to retain earth where the pipe runs have been installed. Once completed, the footpaths can be completed.
Lagoon landscaping and pond construction
- Earthworks have commenced to the redundant lagoon area where the spoil from the whole scheme has been stored. Agreements are in place with the client to re-use the spoil and create a local habitat, with a 25m x 25m pond, along with bee bunds and a wildlife lagoon. This will reduce the project’s carbon footprint.
Fuel delivery area
- The fuel area palisade security fencing installation has commenced.
