The Tertiary Treatment Pumping Station has been completed at Hailsham South. Coleman Construction & Utilities Limited’s works included the excavation of an 8m x 8m footprint at 4.5m deep. This was completed with the use of 14 tonne 360 machine to excavate and install temporary works, along with a mini excavator, which was required to be lifted into the excavation, so that the corners could be reached.
The temporary works and formwork were designed by specialist sub-contractor RMD Kwikform and then installed on site by Coleman Construction & Utilities Limited Operatives. The construction thereafter was completed in stages, including installation of a sub-base and concrete blinding and installing cut and bent steel rebar within the base shutters. The works concluded with concrete being poured to the base, cut and bent wall steel being installed along the wall formwork and finally the walls being poured.
The work was all completed during the COVID-19 pandemic, with systems and procedures in place to mitigate any risks. With multiple items of plant required to complete the work, operatives maintained social distancing measures, whilst making good progress.
Further work on the site includes new inlet screens and a screen handling plant, power upgrades – including new LV distribution switchboard and standby generator – new RAS pumps, 8 new aerators and new FST weirs.
Coleman Construction & Utilities Limited have been engaged as the civils sub-contractor by CDMP for the Hailsham South Wastewater project, on behalf of Southern Water. The purpose of the project is to improve the quality of final effluent that is being discharged from the works and entering the local water course’s and to meet the regulatory output dates set by the Environment Agency.
Works are due to be completed late in 2021, ready for occupation of the plant by Southern Water in early 2022.
