Hailsham South August 2021 Progress Report

Coleman Construction & Utilities Limited have been progressing their civil engineering sub-contract for CMDP at the Hailsham South Wastewater project, on behalf of Southern Water. The purpose of the project is to improve the quality of final effluent that is being discharged from the works and entering the local watercourse’s and to meet the regulatory output dates set by the Environment Agency.

Civils works for August 2021 have included:

Secondary Ferric Dosing and Access Roads

The Secondary Ferric Dosing area has now been completed including the chemical delivery bund and containment humps. Guardsman anti ram bollards have also been installed to protect the new units from delivery vehicles.

Access roads have started to be constructed for access to the ferric kiosk. Road bays are to be constructed in conjunction with main contractor CMDP, so that curing times for the new concrete is sufficient for tankers and other vehicles to drive over. Weekly meetings and collaborative planning sessions have helped the works to progress.

Lagoon Landscaping and Pond Construction

Earthworks have continued in the redundant lagoon area where the spoil from the whole scheme has been stored. To date, no spoil has been removed off site, supporting the schemes targets for carbon reduction.

The area has been landscaped and created into an area for habitat. A 25m x 25m pond has been formed, pond underlay installed, and liner has been placed and covered with aquatic soil and 10mm shingle.

Primary Ferric Area

The Primary Ferric area has been excavated, and all existing services have been lowered so that they are below formation dig level. The area has then been built back up with subbase and new services have been installed to their final positions. Concrete blinding has been installed, with shuttering and reinforcement constructed ready for the concrete base to be poured.

Actiflo Area Hardstanding

Pressure testing of all below ground pipe work has now been completed, this included the new PE wash water main and the Actiflo inlet Ductile Iron pipe work. A new concrete hardstanding will now constructed to take into account the various pipework fittings that are now situated below the ground in this area.

The project is due to be completed late in 2021, ready for occupation of the plant by Southern Water in early 2022.
