Coleman Construction Group secures Tunbridge Wells Phase 2 Civils

We have been awarded and now commenced Phase 2 at Tunbridge Wells South Water Treatment Works, which, was secured off the back of excellent performance during Phase 1 and covers a significant package of managed civil construction works.

Our Project and site management teams and specialist civils crews have hit the ground running and are installing a Temporary Works Designed mat for a piling rig covering the installation of 40No piles for the FST foundation. This has involved excavating using 22t machines, removing 300 loads of spoil across 676m2, laying a 200mm bed of 20mm shingle across the excavation for drainage and then 400mm of compacted 6f5 primary stone.

Inlet works are also ongoing with the inlet diversion chamber and have been particularly challenging due to the amount of services in the way – 10No SCO’s will be needed to divert the existing services in order to construct the diversion and PST distribution chambers.

The team has also commenced the 450mm DI pipework and associated chamber installations and has 350mm and 600mm DI pipe to install at over 5m in depth, which will require sheet and frame temporary works.

The full scope for CMDP – JV and Southern Water covers:

> Inlet Works Modifications: New pipe connections to divert flow from existing FFT channel to new PST distribution chamber. Comprising 2 x cores through existing channel wall, new manhole, new flowmeter chamber, new PST distribution chamber & all associated pipework.
> Formation of a piling mat.
> Final Settlement Tank Structure: 24.5m diameter with associated pipework and manholes.
> RAS PS Modifications: concrete slab for new pumps, associated pipework and ductwork.
> Sitewide Services: ductwork, draw pits, drainage, footpaths and wash water installations.

Impressive work from the team, with some challenging conditions to weather too.
